University of Maryland Dental School awarded for their vision in dental education
The University of Maryland Dental School, one of Planmeca’s major collaborators in developing the acknowledged digital learning environment, was honoured for their outstanding vision in the field of dental education. Named after Dr William J. Gies and presented by the ADEAGies Foundation, the William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement recognise contributions to and support of global oral health and education initiatives.
The University of Maryland Dental School was commended for complementing its consistent leadership vision. “The building departed substantially from conventional architecture for dental educational facilities, bringing another new vision of an environment for dental education, research and the provision of care,” the award nominator stated.
Dean Christian S. Stohler finds the award a great honour for the School. “More than 150 years ago we had the vision to formalise dental education, and that visionary spirit still motivates us today,” he says.
The award ceremony took place on March 29, 2008, in Dallas, Texas in conjunction with the 85th American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session.
